The initiative NetAfrica was conceptualized and launched in February 2011 as an All-Africa Network of Networks.

NetAfrica seeks to position itself as an African civil society organization working in the field of community information and communication technology access in Africa.

NetAfrica, being a non-formal structure, is currently hosted in Burkina Faso by RECYCOM.

Global leaders must urgently accelerate progress toward universal and affordable access to information and communication technologies (ICTs), if the world is to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, according to the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development.
