Lets face it, not everyone is cut out to work in the medical industry. Some people are, and some people arent.
But have you ever really thought about what makes a person more cut out for it than another? Well, first of all, if youre arent a compassionate person, you arent going to make it very long in this industry. The entire basis of the medical profession (especially if youre a nurse or CNA) is helping other people feel/get better...in other words helping people. If youre a selfish or self-centered person, if wont be long before you burn out in the nursing industry.
In contrast, if you are a compassionate person with a heart for others, youll most likely enjoy working in the nursing industry, and really grow to develop relationships with your patients. Its just so important that you care about other people, especially because there are some nurses with bad or stressful attitudes, and all they do is add to the stress that patients who are sick already have. Imagine being a patient (maybe you have experience this) where your nurse is crabby and unhelpful...doesnt that make you feel worse? Absolutely! So consider these things before you think about becoming a nurse. If you arent really a people person per se, then it might be more beneficial for you to choose a career in a different industry.
Another thing to think about when it comes to careers in the medical industry is how youll be able to deal with the somewhat gross situations, like blood, and people being sick. Not everyone has a stomach for this so to speak, and some people who dont naturally can develop it. But, if youre someone who just knows that you wont be able to tolerate the sight of blood or other gross things, then again, maybe a medical career is not for you.
Finally, you need to spend some time thinking about how youll deal with the stress of a medical or nursing career. For example, as a nurse, youll be working long, hard hours and during your shifts you may be under a lot of pressure at times. Some people just dont deal well with this, and do much better with a lower stress job. In nursing, you might have to work overnight, or double shifts, and not everyone is capable of doing this. The main point to take away here is that you really need to be passionate about this industry in order to succeed, and really have a heart for other people. If youve got these things, then you might be a great candidate for the nursing profession, but if you dont, you may want to consider other career choices.
